Company and Director Honored for 25 Years of Contributions
CINCINNATI, Ohio – December 12, 2014 – Rumpke Waste & Recycling was recognized for its significant contributions to recycling in Ohio during the past 25 years by the Association of Ohio Recyclers (AOR) and the Buckeye Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
The awards were presented during the organizations’ joint conference at the Maumee Bay Resort in Oregon, Ohio. Rumpke President and CEO Bill Rumpke Jr. accepted the award on behalf of the company.
“Recycling is a core aspect of our business, and we have made significant investments to improve recycling opportunities for our customers,” said Bill Rumpke Jr.
At the award presentation, it was noted that – even when confronted with overwhelming challenges – Rumpke’s commitment to recycling has never wavered.
“Rumpke has always been devoted to advancing recycling in Ohio,” said Steve Sargent, Rumpke’s director of recycling. “We’re proud to have been part of many successful recycling programs for communities and businesses across the state.”
In addition to Rumpke’s award, Sargent received an individual award for his influence on recycling in Ohio. He also delivered a keynote address at the annual conference. Sargent has served as the director of recycling for Rumpke since it was founded in 1989.
Rumpke’s recycling division was founded in 1989 with the opening of its first recycling site in Circleville, Ohio. Today, the company owns and operates 10 recycling centers in Ohio and Kentucky, including two state-of-the-art single stream processing facilities in Columbus and Cincinnati, and an innovative glass processing plant in Dayton. As Ohio’s Recycling Leader, Rumpke processes more than 700 million pounds of recyclables annually.
AOR’s mission is to provide statewide leadership on waste reduction, reuse and recycling policies and practices in order to promote economic growth, environmental improvement and community development in Ohio.
