Fireworks Disposal

  • Spent fireworks and charcoal embers should be soaked in water prior to disposal to ensure they won’t reignite.
  • If fireworks are unused—DON’T place in trash or recycling.
  • Lithium-ion batteries aren’t accepted in trash or traditional recycling programs. Contact your solid waste district for disposal options.
  • Pool chemicals and other items marked flammable or hazardous aren’t accepted in trash or recycling. Contact your solid waste district for disposal options.

Safety First

Fireworks, cookouts and pool parties are standard protocols for many holidays, especially Independence Day celebrations – and burnt trash cans, dumpster fires and truck fires threats increase significantly the days that follow for the clean-up crews at Rumpke Waste & Recycling.

“Annually, we see an increase in container and truck fires the days and weeks following the Independence Day holiday,” said Bridgett Biggs, area safety manager, Rumpke. “If not properly handled, fireworks, pool chemicals and charcoal embers can cause dangerous situations for our employees, facilities and the motoring public.”
