Recycling Center Tours
During a walking tour of the recycling facility, guests will learn about the technology used at Rumpke’s state-of-the-art facilities and see recyclables sorted and separated. The tour also includes an explanation of acceptable and unacceptable materials, an overview of Rumpke's recycling operations and an opportunity for questions.
Scheduling
- Tours of Rumpke’s recycling facility in Cincinnati are scheduled on Wednesdays only, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Tours of the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Tours of other Rumpke recycling facilities are available Monday-Friday, depending on tour guide availability.
The Rumpke Education Center
In collaboration with COSI, the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus, OH, boasts a brand-new, one-of-a-kind education center with interactive exhibits and a tour platform to view the recycling process in action. From the marketplace to the creation of new products, the center provides a hands-on learning experience that provides guests with a better understanding of how recycling works in Ohio.
Transportation
- Groups must provide their own transportation to the facility. Groups are encouraged to car-pool because of parking limitations.
Weather
- Rumpke reserves the right to cancel tours because of unfavorable weather conditions or safety concerns.
Ages
- For the Cincinnati facility: All tour participants must be high school age or older as a safety precaution.
- For the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus: Tours are open to participants ages 10 and up.
Group Sizes
- We will attempt to accommodate small and large groups.
- For the Cincinnati facility: Tours can accommodate groups of 10 to 20 people.
- For the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus: Tours in Columbus can accommodate groups of 10 to 30 people.
Stairs
- For the Cincinnati facility: Guests must be able to climb flights of stairs without assistance. While an elevator is available, the tour experience will be limited for those unable to use the stairs.
- For the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center in Columbus: The facility has an elevator and use of the elevator should not limit the tour experience.
Dress Code
- Required: sturdy, hard-sole, closed toe shoes with backs (no sandals or heels)
- Recommended: Long pants and long sleeves
- Guests who don't abide by the dress code are not permitted inside the facility.
Medical Conditions
- The tours occur in an industrial environment and may not be appropriate for individuals with medical conditions impacted by dust or noise. Additionally, the facilities have several magnets that may impact medical devices.
