Rumpke Employee Wins National Award for Safe Driving
COLUMBUS, OHIO – April 21, 2014 – A Rumpke driver has been named Driver of the Year by the National Waste and Recycling Association.
James Stoops was chosen for this prestigious honor for his commitment to safe driving. He has achieved 12 years without a single accident.
“I try to be a defensive driver, making sure I’m staying safe,” Stoops said. “I want to make sure no one else on the road has to worry about me.”
Stoops drives a commercial front-load truck for Rumpke. He serves customers throughout Greater Columbus in Franklin, Delaware and Unions counties including businesses, restaurants, schools and churches.
“Waste and recycling firms provide a necessary service for hundreds of millions of people daily, and drivers are the heartbeat of it all,” said Andrew Rumpke, vice president at Rumpke. “James Stoops is one of the best. He has consistently proven to be a role model for others in the industry.”
Stoops will be recognized by the National Waste and Recycling Association later this month during the industry’s Waste Expo in Atlanta.
Stoops, 38, resides in Chillicothe with his wife Cameo and his two children, Allyssa, 12, and Cameron, 5. Last year, his colleague Darrell Davis received the Driver of the Year award.
The National Waste and Recycling Association is the trade organization representing for-profit waste and recycling companies in North America. Each year, the Association selects the safest and most outstanding drivers in the industry. Companies are placed in three categories based on the number of vehicles in their fleet. Rumpke is classified as a “Regional Carrier” with a fleet between 251 and 2,000. For the second consecutive year, Rumpke claimed all three Driver of the Year awards in their category.
