How to Know if Something is Recyclable?
When you’re looking to see if an item is recyclable or not, do you check the bottom for the chasing arrows symbol? Although this is what many people are taught to do, this is not the proper way to determine if an item can be recycled.
What Should You Do Instead?
Rumpke encourages recyclers to check the list of acceptable items to determine whether it should go in their bin. A common misconception is that any plastic with the chasing arrows symbol should go in the recycling bin, but this is not the case. Recyclability also depends on size and shape, not just the material!
Currently, Rumpke accepts plastic bottles and jugs for recycling. If you’re still hesitant about which items are accepted, take our recycling knowledge quiz to help you brush up on your skills.
Remember, even if Rumpke cannot recycle your items, you can always repurpose them in your home. We hope to expand our list of accepted recyclable materials in the future, so stay tuned for more updates!
