Rumpke’s Medora Recycling Facility accepts recyclables from a wide portion of southern Indiana, covering a 75-mile radius around the facility. Recyclables come from residential curbside and drop-off box programs and commercial customers.

Primarily, recyclables are brought to the facility by Rumpke collection trucks that collect recycling from residential and commercial customers in the region. Area residents can also bring recyclables directly to the site, where Rumpke offers a public drop-off box.

The facility serves two primary functions:

1. Residential Single Stream

Rumpke offers single stream curbside collection throughout the surrounding community. Materials collected are delivered to the Medora Recycling Center and unloaded onto the tipping floor.

A conveyor line feeds the material to a manual pre-sort station, where contaminants are removed.

The single stream material is then conveyed outside the facility into an enclosed compactor. The material is then transported to Rumpke’s regional single stream Material Recovery Facility in Cincinnati for processing.

2. Commercial Cardboard

Rumpke collects loose cardboard from area businesses and industries and delivers it to the Medora Recycling Center. The cardboard is unloaded onto the tipping floor.

A conveyor line feeds the cardboard to a manual pre-sort station, where contaminants are removed.

The cardboard is then baled in a closed-door, manual tie baler. Rumpke transports baled cardboard directly to regional end-users.
