Jefferson County Residents Yard Waste Must Be In Approved Containers
LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Oct. 24, 2014—Rumpke and other service providers will no longer collect yard waste in plastic garbage bags, per a new rule in Jefferson County.
Jefferson County Solid Waste Management District adopted a regulation (51.507R) in July 2014 that prohibits residents from using plastic garbage bags for yard waste. The regulation specifies that residents may use the following approved containers for yard waste:
- Reusable bin clearly labeled “Yard Waste” (Residents may contact Rumpke or their municipality to inquire about a rolling cart option.)
- Paper yard waste bags
- Compostable plastic bags (must meet D6400 standards)
When the rule is enforced January 1, 2015, yard waste will not be collected if it is not in the approved containers, and residents could be fined. For more information, visit the City of Louisville website.
