Rumpke Waste & Recycling is proud to provide long-term, reliable solid waste disposal options for residents and businesses in Scott County, Kentucky.
In 2021, Rumpke opened a $5.5 million solid waste transfer facility at 245 West Yusen Way in Georgetown to efficiently transport residential and commercial waste collected in Scott and surrounding counties to Rumpke’s regional landfills.
The Scott County Transfer Facility features a modern design. Waste is unloaded inside the building and loaded into transfer trailers the same day. FAQs about Rumpke’s Scott County Transfer Facility
Who is Rumpke?
Rumpke Waste & Recycling is a family owned and operated company. Since our inception in 1932, we have been on a mission to provide total waste solutions for neighborhoods and businesses. For 90 years, our family company has been helping millions throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia properly dispose of waste and recycling. Although we’re privately owned, Rumpke ranks among the largest waste and recycling companies in the country. And in 2021, we were ranked one of the best managed companies in the United States.
What is the Scott County Transfer Facility?
The facility is a consolidation point to efficiently transport municipal solid waste collected from residents and businesses in Scott and surrounding counties to our landfills in Pendleton and Montgomery Counties. No out of state waste is accepted at the site.
The 21,819 square foot facility includes an enclosed tipping floor to accept waste, a sizable maintenance garage to service a small fleet of Rumpke vehicles and office space to house sales and administrative team members.
What are the hour of operation for the facility?
Monday - Friday 8 am to 4 pm.
Saturday 8 am to 12pm.
Why is the transfer station necessary?
For nearly 90 years, our family owned and operated company has provided residents and businesses with friendly, reliable waste and recycling service. Over the past several years, Rumpke has experienced growth in and around Scott County. This transfer station allows us to better serve homes and businesses in Central Kentucky and improve operational efficiencies.
The transfer facility also provides additional outlets for waste disposal, providing Scott County residents and businesses more options. In addition to materials collected by Rumpke’s hauling operations, the facility is available to third-party haulers, municipal crews (i.e. the City of Georgetown, Kentucky) and institutions performing their own collection.
With trash coming into the site, how are odors controlled?
We strive to be a good neighbor in the communities we service, and part of that commitment includes doing everything we can to minimize odors at our facilities. The Scott County Transfer Facility is completely enclosed with garage doors, which will help reduce odors. In addition, the facility’s location near Interstate 75 and US 62 allows our team the ability to quickly move waste out via tractor trailers the same day.
We currently operate 18 transfer stations across our four-state service region. At each location, we have a proven success record of effectively controlling odors, litter and other vectors. We devote the same diligence in Scott County to ensure odors are kept to a minimum.
What will be the hours of operation?
The facility operates between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to Noon on Saturday. The facility is closed on Sundays and select holidays.
How is litter minimized and contained?
At Rumpke, we strive to be invisible at the property line – and we will uphold that commitment in Scott County. The entire property has a fence around the boundary, which reduces the possibility of litter blowing off site. During non-operating hours, the doors of the transfer station are shut to prevent wind-blown litter. During operating hours, dedicated team members are responsible for collected wind-blown litter that may escape the unloading floor.
How many workers will be employed at the facility?
Approximately 25 team members work at the site – ranging from drivers, mechanics and laborers to sales and administrative personnel.
Has there be an increase in truck traffic?
We selected the property at 245 Yusen Way primarily due to its proximity to the interstate and location in an industrial park. Because it’s an industrial area, we believe waste collection trucks and tractor trailers blend well with already existing traffic in the area.
Where is the trash coming from?
The Scott County Transfer Facility primarily accepts waste collected from Scott County and portions of surrounding counties.
What types of waste will be received at the facility?
Municipal solid waste collected from area homes and businesses will be accepted at the transfer station. Hazardous waste will not be accepted.
A community recycling drop box is also available at the site to accept recyclable items such as plastic bottles and jugs, glass bottles and jars, cardboard, metal cans and a variety of paper products. These materials will be transported a regional recycling facility for processing.
